So this pic was posted on sca_garb. I have shamelessly swiped it to ask a question. Would this idea fall into the same category as Skapti's coat that Mistress Ariel did such a wonderful job on? I wish I had a pic of it.... Really kinda cool looking, but not documentable? I think the Celt in me finds the embellishment irresistable.......

There's this one that Laurellen did: http://www.vertetsable.com/pix/skeptitunic.jpg

She even mentions where she got the inspiration from. :)

Skapti loved that tunic......sadly, I think it was part of the garb that Skeggi lost(was stolen?) during his reign.....

Wow...I have no idea if it's period or not, but oh my gosh those are beautiful...

...me thinks I need some new garb...

There is always something to be said for the WOW factor. =)

My guess would be that this is where "creative anachronism" part comes in. ;> Pretty and fun, though!

I kinda figured it would be in the "You can't prove that they did, but you can't prove that they didn't category"

I don't think they would have decorated the apron dress but the caftan/coat would have been acceptable. I am trying to research it so I can make my apron dress...when I have time.

Hey, the lady on the right in that photo is Duchess Anna Ophelia Holloway Tarragon. Marcus and I were on her retinue when Amazon upped moved us from the East Kingdom to here. She's a super, super nice person, and I know how she can be reached. Would you like me to try?

Thanks! I think I will just continue to admire from afar and may incorporate it into a future fun coat for one of our "collective" kids.

It was kinda weird to see Duchess Anna show up in this post. She was one of my closest friends many years ago. I truly agree with the “super, super nice person” part. What a small amazing world we live in.

Really, really not period. The norse just didn't do this for, oh so many reasons which I can go into if you want.

It is, however, SCA cool. :)

I know....my desire to pursue authenticity is battling with the "SCA Cool" factor.....nice to look at.....

I don't see myself doing anything with it really. My list of projects is too big already. Shoes and boots for me, garb for S, coats for Mad, Samantha, Bean, and Thallen, and on and on and on......
